How often, how easy is it to preach condemnation from scripture whilst the very scripture we preach is in fact intended to exhort us, lift us up and make us sing with joy.
Psalm 58 is such a scripture.
David addresses the wicket, the ones causing God's beloved to go astray. He explains how they are estranged from the womb, the inner being of God, poisoning God's beloved, even deaf to their own handler (the devil himself), not even listening to those who call them - powerful metaphors and poetry he uses in his old covenant prayer!
But then he comes to the prophetic side of the word, the very Gospel in verse 10 and 11:
The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is an Elohim that judgeth in the earth.
He talks about how the righteous will rejoice seeing vengeance, talking about Jesus Himself Who brought vengeance in destroying death when he was resurrected. The enemy is under His feet ...defeated!
... and then man (adam) will admit: Verily there is a reward for the righteous.
What is this beautiful sentence saying?
Reward is has a beautiful pictograph in the Hebrew from the root pârâh or פּרה picturing - the word (plan - what He speaks) of the Highest is Grace!
He is unmerited favour from beginning to end!
Reward means 'bringing forth fruit'.
The verse says that Righteousness (Jesus, YHVH our righteousness - Jer 23:6) will bring forth fruit (us).
Surely, He is the One Who judged in the earth.
Surely, Jesus is our exceedingly great Reward!
